RESTORING RELATIONSHIPS

Equipping parents with
healthy parenting skills
for healthy futures

We often hear moms say that discipline is hard because they feel guilty about the things they cannot provide their children. However, while uncomfortable in the moment, discipline, consistency, and routines are something a mom can give her children that will set them up for success in life and fruitfulness in God’s kingdom. We encourage moms to provide consistent, age-appropriate parenting approaches, that are done with the right attitude, compassionately, under control, with boundaries. We encourage intentionality in spending quality time with their children each day, which might be part of the child’s bedtime routine or at a specific meal each day. Building trust and connections are a key component to healing past hurts in the relationship.

A mother at the Springdale Family Care Home has been implementing TBRI® principles with her two children. She has already had success with her children grasping the concept of “listen and obey” and being “gentle and kind”. These are life value terms that we teach the moms to use to guide children toward positive behavior. They are short scripts that even young children can grasp and be taught proactively. Recently her 2-year-old son was playing and getting a little rough. She gently replied, “We listen?” and he replied “And obey.” He then settled and helped her complete her chores for the week!
